ELECTIVES

To make your 2018 CBD experience more tailored to your likings and for your interests the following electives have been organised for your enjoyment.  You are to select from 1 of the following to be involved in on the Wedneday of your weeks experience.  To register for the elective that you are interested in fill in the following Google Form by the Tuesday 22nd of May.  There are only 25 spots per elective so first in best dressed, but be aware that some electives have pre and post work associated with them.   

OPTIONS

OPTION 1:

The Precinct Tour 

From a professionally coached ice skating session at O'Brien Group Arena to a behind-the-scenes journey through Etihad Stadium, to a round trip via the Melbourne Star, our Docklands Precinct Pass will take you through some of Melbourne’s most iconic cultural landmarks.

Be introduced to Australia’s largest ice sports and entertainment venue, learn about the Olympic training that happens on that ice, and have the chance to show off some moves after a 30-minute introductory ice skating lesson from one of our coaches.

Moving onto the Etihad Stadium, you will spend an hour exploring the hallowed halls of one of Australia’s greatest sporting facilities and all that has happened within them, from the players changing rooms to the interchange bench to the famous Media Centre and from past to present. 

Finally, you will board the mighty Melbourne Star and take a flight of discovery through the Melbourne skies. You’ll see the city from a whole new perspective, and have the chance to see the vibrant Melbourne cultural landscape.

 

OPTION 2:

Photography: The Heart of Melbourne Walking Tour

A city tour in the CBD exploring the worlds ‘most livable city, its lanes and arcades, historic and contemporary architecture, cafe and coffee society and meeting places.

OPTION 3:

Hardrock Climbing

Indoor Rock Climbing located on Swanston St is a fantastic activity that almost everyone can enjoy! It doesn't matter if you have never been before, and you do not have to be spider man to try it!

OPTION 4:

Melbourne Museum and IMAX Documentary (Forces of Nature)

The ground moves, mountains explode, the sky turns black and violent. The natural forces that helped create life on our green planet can also destroy it.  Forces of Nature is the perfect accompaniment for your studies of Science or Geography, see it on the giant IMAX screen. This documentary is accompanied by a self guided tour and exploration of all that the Melbourne Museum holds. 

 

OPTION 5:

Melbourne City Walk - The Cosmopolitan 

Students will have the opportunity to see Stunning city views, glamorous Collins St, sophisticated shopping and experience the many cuisines that Melbourne has to offer such as at Chinatown.. Students will be able to do this all by Walking .The guided tour will take approximately  2 hours. Distance 3.75 km.

OPTION 6: WEEK TWO ONLY

The Royal Botanical Gardens- Health and Wellbeing in Nature

Health and wellbeing is interconnected with time spent in natural environments. Being in nature reduces anger, fear, anxiety and stress and increases pleasant feelings. Exposure to nature not only makes you feel better emotionally, it contributes to your physical wellbeing, reducing blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and the production of stress hormones.

In this specially developed new program, students are invited to explore the physical, mental and emotional benefits of spending time outside. Participants will brainstorm and discuss the role of healthy foods, physical exercise and spending time outside in cultivating health and wellbeing. Through practice of mindfulness exercises, participants will learn to nurture their own self-awareness and greater awareness of others and the natural world.
